Jasper is an opaque and fine grain variety of chalcedony quartz that comes in a variety of colors ranging from white to yellow-green to reddish-brown and even shades of blue, purple and pink. It often contains organic material and mineral oxides which give it interesting patterns. Jasper is mined worldwide but a wide variety is found in the western areas of the United States.
